"Cogito ergo sum"

Cogito ergo sum. 'I think. Therefore, I am.'

I came across this phrase while reading Lauren Conrad's LA Candy, and I decided to look it up. It was coined by philosopher Rene Descartes, who tried to discover whether he really existed, or if he was just an illusion. His conclusion was that because he had the ability to think, he must exist. His mind was working, doing its job, meaning that he must be there. He must exist.

I took a liking toward this phrase because it reminded me that we are all the same. We all have the ability to think. We all are. We all exist. So why does it make it OK for some of us to be treated as lesser beings by people who only have the exact same ability? If you think about it, all we really are is our minds. Some of us have more knowledge than others, some of us have more creativity, innovation, motivation, and some of us have less. All these things separate us, but it works, mostly.
Something, somewhere, whether it be a God, or not, has made us so that together we are able to keep the world alive. Our minds combined, and our communication, allows us to do the jobs which we are most suited to, in order to look after the place in which we exist.
